From The Farm to The Wood Shed
James DeBoer has always loved two things — farming and woodworking. In an effort to find that ‘perfect piece of lumber’ he began harvesting from his own woodlot in the late 1980s. Fairly soon his chicken shed had somehow morphed into a wood shed. Word was that you could get a really nice stick of lumber from James — quality wood at very reasonable prices. Stuff you just couldn’t get anywhere else. Over time, James began to add a wider range of lumber to the wood shed — both domestic and imported — along with sheet goods and specialty products.
Today the Wood Shed is widely known as one of the best places to find quality lumber in Southern Ontario. Even though the ‘shed’ is a lot bigger, the easy-going, self-serve, “let’s-talk-wood” atmosphere remains. As do the fair prices and quality service.

The Pickings - Plain Domestic to Luxurious Imports
The Wood Shed is a wood lover’s gold mine. While they specialize in rough-sawn domestic lumber like maple, oak, cherry, walnut and ash, and figured lumber like bird’s eye, and curly maple, you’ll find a lot more. Furniture makers will want to check out their inventory of exotic lumber, including species such as Zebrawood, Wenge, Purpleheart, Yellowheart, African Mahogany , and Sapele. Carvers will find a huge selection of basswood and butternut blanks in various sizes and turners will find a huge selection of domestic and exotic blanks in a wide range of sizes.
If you’re looking for live edge slabs or reclaimed lumber, you won’t find a better source than the Wood Shed. By laminating stock from the same log they can make up custom slabs of virtually any width, in a wide range of thicknesses and lengths. The end result is a slab that has consistent grain and colour across its width.
You’ll also discover a wide range of specialty items — turned sets of table legs, crown moulding, large inventory of dimensional western cedar, douglas fir timbers from 6″ x 6″ up to 12″ x 12″, plus a range of edge taping, sliders, hinges, and other hardware. Plus, varieties of sheet goods including Baltic birch, marine grade ply, prefinished birch, as well as maple, red oak, walnut and cherry veneer core and particle core ply.
