Daryja and Rachel are high school students at the Glebe Collegiate Institute in Ottawa, ON and were taught by Roy Peters.

The “Philosopher’s Bookcase” was inspired by Paul Stefanski’s Console Table II (2006).  We chose a similar concept but decided to accentuate the asymmetry by alternating butternut and basswood strips in a light-dark pattern. Splines join each cabinet corner, and the hanging shelf is joined with mortises and tenons. The two halves of the bookcase are joined by 45° wedges in the sides.
