Using a Festool Domino joiner to make table top expansion clips

Maker: Edwin DeBruyn

Location: Hamilton, Ontario

I used a Festool Domino joiner to cut slots in small maple blocks that were screwed into coffee table skirts. The table top was then attached to the coffee table carcass using 2” pan head screws. This technique provides a solid attachment of the table top and allows for table top’s seasonal expansion and contraction.

These scrap maple blocks are 5/8” x 2” x 1-7/8”. A 5 mm domino bit set to a 28mm cut depth was used to cut the slots.
