Alejandro Balbis from Longueuil, Quebec made this cabinet to store spices, nuts and other ingredients. White pine was used to make the drawers and hidden components while the splines, front edges and knobs were made from black walnut. The carcase was made with quarter-sawn red oak, which is the only change he would make – its open grain was very coarse, making the through mortises even more difficult.
