Engraved firefighter’s shield

A carving I was commissioned to make along with engraving an axe handle with an inscription. It is made of brown maple. A backplate with hooks was added to support the axe.
Wow… I think that is a marvel of carving. The lines are so crisp and clean. I’m sure doing it in a hard wood like maple was extra challenging.
