Snake chair

Canadian Woodworking

Peter Marcucci, from Woodbridge, ON, figures he spent about 100 hours making his “Snake Chair” from 8/4 black walnut.

The 56″ high back features a cobra up the middle, flanked by two rattlesnakes. They were all carved separately before the three pieces were attached to the seat with a Maloof-style joint. As you can imagine, the carving was a challenge. “I’m just developing my carving skills, so carving the snake heads were the most challenging part, especially scooping out the inside of the cobra’s hood.”
