Once you have a glue gun you’ll find ample uses for it around the shop and home. It makes a better temporary adhesive than masking tape, enables you to build and then disassemble maquettes (miniature draft project models) more quickly, holds odd shaped workpieces in place while wood glue dries, holds stock securely on a milling sled when jointing uneven boards in a planer, holds moulding in place while you permanently attach it with a brad nailer, and a lot more. Cordless glue guns are more convenient because they aren’t tethered to the wall, making it easier for you to move around the shop or home with them.

If you’re in the market for a cordless, high temperature glue gun you’ll want to check out the WORX WX045L, which has some very good features at an attractive price point.

  • Weight: 0.79 lbs

The first thing you’ll likely notice about this glue gun is that it’s shaped like a drill/driver. I found this makes it much easier to control and it doesn’t require a stand like many glue gun. The base mounted battery makes it super stable when set on a worktable. The under 1 pound weight along with a slim handle that has an extended two-finger trigger further adds to comfort and ease of use.

On the tail end of the gun, where you insert the glue stick is a window where you can see how much of the stick is left. At the opposite end, the small tip enables you to apply glue exactly where it’s supposed to go. I like that you can squeeze out glue in small drops rather than large globs, which makes it easier to lay out thin glue lines and apply glue more precisely in tight spots.

The WX045L heats up to 200°C, so you can use high temperature glue sticks, which have a bit of a longer open time and greater holding power. I use low temp glue sticks when I want to more easily remove work pieces. 11mm glue sticks in 152mm (6″) and 254mm (10″) lengths are available just about everywhere. The on/off switch is conveniently located on the top of the gun, but if you forget to turn the gun off it automatically shuts off after 20 minutes of inactive. I’ve average about 1-1/2 hours of run time with the 2.0Ah battery. You may get more or less depending on usage and how often you cycle the gun on and off.

With a 3 year warranty and under $90 (with a battery and charger), the WORX WX045L is a good investment in an easy-to-use, dependable glue gun.
