A great set of high quality hook & loop sanding discs that are conveniently arranged in a Systainer.
Like most woodworkers I do a lot of sanding. Somedays, any sanding is too much sanding. Frankly, the less I can do the better. But, having decent sandpaper makes the struggle a little easier. Thankfully, I’ve had a chance to test the Festool Systainer3 Abrasive Set SYS-STF D125 GR.
Manufacturer: Festool
Model: 577126
Price: $275
Made in: Germany

Warranty: 3 years
Compatible with the Festool Rotex 125, ETS 125 and CTS EC 125 the Festool Systainer3 abrasive set comes with 100 Granat sanding discs ranging from 60 to 220-grit as well as an interface-pad all organized in a Festool Systainer. I used the ETS 125 random orbit sander and CLEANTEC CT 15 dust extractor when conducting the testing.
The hook & loop backing of the Granat abrasive discs are strong and hold extremely well. The discs provide an excellent smooth finish and hold up well on a variety of conditions and wood species. Even when working on an end grain cutting board, the discs provide a smooth finish in less time than most of the other brands I’ve tried. By using a sandpaper cleaning stick I was able to extend the life of each grit.
The interface-pad included in the set has quickly became something I’ll use a lot into the future. It’s placed between the sander backing plate and the sanding disc and serves to increase the flexibility of the disc and help to evenly distribute sander pressure on the work surface. I find that it worked well when used over various curves and edge profiles.
Overall, this abrasive set is very handy to have in the shop and on a work site. The easy access and convenient organization of the discs in the Systainer made for quick change of grits since all are easily accessible at your fingertips. If I was to improve on the set in any way, I’d replace the 60-grit discs with 320-grit discs. Regardless, this set will always have a place beside my sanding station.
