The built-in blade guides on these bandsaw table inserts provide optimal blade support and zero clearance precision.

I don’t like saying this, but I both love and hate my bandsaw. It’s frankly old and tired. I purchased it used, many years ago, and while it has certainly been a workhorse for what I’ve needed, it’s unfortunately underpowered, and it’s a pain to get tuned up perfectly after every blade change. Even with fine tuning, and a lot of unnecessary fiddling to get the overly complicated blade guides set up, there’s still the frustration of blade drift.

Recently, I was speaking with Ethan at Stockroom Supply and lamenting about my minor bandsaw inconveniences, he mentioned they were making a new product that might be of some help!

Manufacturer: Stockroom Supply
Model: BladeLock
Price: $44.99 to $69.99
Made in: Canada
Source: Stockroomsupply.com

Features:

  • Insert is made from a carbon fiber/polyester blend
  • Lock blocks are made from graphite-impregnated phenolic
  • Adjustable insert height
  • Fits all blade sizes and teeth patterns

What Ethan suggested was their new BladeLock Inserts; they come in a variety of sizes, specifically designed to fit the multitude of bandsaw models out there. With a quick confirmation on my blade positioning and table throat size (in my case Offset and 2.5”) we were off and running. The concept is elegant in its simplicity, but incredibly well thought out.

Described as; “Crafted from a durable carbon fiber/polyester blend, its surface stays flat, while the graphite impregnated phenolic Lock Blocks offer wear resistance and dry blade lubrication, ensuring solid blade position with little heat buildup. The BladeLock features stainless steel hardware for corrosion resistance and adjustable screws for leveling.”

Even though this description doesn’t do it justice, it also acts as a zero clearance insert, which not only has precision fitting options, but also multiple dust clearance holes to ensure your workpiece glides smoothly through the cut, but the truly ingenious aspect is the adjustable Lock Block!. The Lock Blocks can be quickly adjusted to align with your blade, making for a quick and easy blade guide. Combined with the standard blade guides above and below the table, this third point of alignment essentially eliminates that risk of blade drift, especially if you’re resawing or have your blade guides set way too far apart, which I mean, we’ve probably all done that at some point!

Overall, I’ve been using the BladeLock for a few weeks now, and it has made a huge difference with my bandsaw, while it’s still underpowered and a pain to change blades on, drift has all but been eliminated. As I mentioned, this truly is an ingenious accessory, which I would highly recommend for any bandsaw user. Plus, it’s Canadian made! Not just Canadian made but made by a small family business no less! Frankly, it checks all the boxes in my books! If you’re someone who uses their bandsaw a lot like I do, consider making the investment into a BladeLock Insert.
