It’s held together without the use of hardware, fasteners, and with the exception of the doors, without glue. “I designed this piece at a time when I was beginning to explore my Japanese heritage,” explains Ian. “I was heavily inspired by what are called ‘Torii’; the arched gateways that act as entrances to Japanese Shinto shrines and temples.” A newcomer to woodworking, he enjoyed every step of the process, and would love to see others do the same. “Having only been in woodworking for two years, I would love to inspire other inexperienced craftspeople to just go out there and really push themselves.
