Strongsville, OH – Northeast Ohio tool manufacturer, Woodpeckers, recently announced its new Router Plane. After studying the many router plane variations from the last century, Woodpeckers novel design integrates quality and ingenuity from the sole up. The blade mechanism can be installed in three locations on the base, with multiple blade positions at each, giving you flexibility to adjust the cutting edge to the task at hand. Combined with a backlash-free depth adjustment and professionally-sharpened blades, Woodpeckers Router Plane is a precision tool designed for both hand-tool and machinery woodworkers alike.
Router planes have long been the go-to tool to clean up the bottoms of grooves, dadoes, and rabbets and to make small adjustments to the depth. But most router planes have crude depth of cut adjustments and getting the depth exactly right can be frustrating. Woodpeckers Router Plane integrates a fine-pitch screw and precision-machined parts to create a tool-less depth adjustment that virtually eliminates backlash. Just a few quick passes with the Router Plane, and your joinery will always come out flat, smooth, and at the right depth.
With six positions to mount the blade and handles, you always have a way to keep the sole flat on your work, get into tight corners, and cut with the blade working with the grain instead of against it. At each of the three mounting locations, the blade mechanism can be secured facing in or facing out. The handles are installed at the remaining two locations, giving you excellent control and stability. And, at cutting depth, the blade can be rotated in the mechanism in four different directions.
The base of the Router Plane is machined from a billet of ductile iron. Then it’s treated with black nitride, creating a hard, corrosion-resistant finish that decreases surface friction. All of the other parts are milled from stainless steel, aluminum, or brass. Each Router Plane comes with two factory-sharpened blades, ready to cut right out of the box. The square blade will cover most applications, but the spearpoint blade comes in handy when getting into hard-to-reach corners.
Woodpeckers offers an optional fence attachment kit. Unlike traditional router plane fences that attach to the sole, the fence slides along guide rods attached to the side of the base. This means you can position the fence right next to the blade or extended well past the end of the sole. If you prefer your own shop-made fence, countersunk holes in the base let you attach fences and jigs.
Woodpeckers has focused on the needs of hobbyist woodworkers since 1988 and began manufacturing the majority of their offerings in 1993. The company makes precision layout tools, router tables and lifts, innovative clamping tools, carbide router bits and a wide variety of helpful shop products. Their facility houses a vast array of computer-controlled mills and lathes and employs over 100 skilled American workers.
