Floating Top Hall Table

It all started with a certain veneered walnut dining table stored in a friend’s too-damp basement and destined for the scrap heap. After some musing it was decided to see if it could be salvaged and turned into a coffee table. Needless to say, excessive moisture and wood don’t get along all that well, and once moved into the shop, the walnut veneer crumbled, and the table split asunder.

Turns out the wood under the veneer was mahogany and an number of useable pieces were salvaged – enough for a narrow hall table. All the joints are floating tenons cut with a shop made tenoning jig.  After a few months of on-and-off work the table was finished with tung oil.
