Bowfront wall cabinet is made from cherry and birch. Bent laminations and some ‘coopering’ were used on the door construction. Bent laminations on the drawer fronts. Dovetails and square pegs at various critical locations hold it all together while allowing the individual components to move freely.
This is a wall-to-wall cabinet with a central double Murphy. It houses 5 office size drawers, 4 regular size drawers, and 2 night table pull outs.
The top doors tip out and lock. The 2 outer small paddles in the bed door are the legs and unlocking mechanism for the bed. The 2 glass display doors are built with soft close European hardware. A hanging closet on the end has been upgraded with a telescoping clothes bar that follows the pull out door assembly.
The cabinet was built with edged 3/4″ birch plywood. The face and rail and style doors are individually assembled out of solid birch with the inlay panels of dense 6mm Russian Baltic Birch.
Finish is three coats of 2 different colour Old Masters gel stain and 3 coats of Diamond Semi Gloss Varathane. Completed in a 14′ x 16′ basement shop over five winters.
